# Watch an address

> Watch a single bitcoin address in Gerfaut when you have no descriptor or extended public key, and see what an address alone cannot show.

Watch a single address to follow the coins on it, with its balance, history and UTXOs. An address alone gives no next address and no spending policy.

## Watch the address

**1. Paste the address**

Follow [Add a wallet](/docs/wallets/add-a-wallet) and paste the address instead of a descriptor.

**2. Check the card**

The card reads `Recognized as` followed by `Single address`, with the address under it.

**3. Name it and select Add wallet**

Gerfaut opens the wallet and runs its first sync.

> [!TIP]
>
> Give the wallet the `Pin` icon in **Settings** > **Wallets**, so your list tells an address from a descriptor wallet at a glance.

## Know what an address cannot do

* **Receive:** The Receive page shows the one address under `Watched address`, with no next address to hand out.
* **Policy:** The Policy page reads `An address has no policy Gerfaut can read.`

## Load a long history

A very active address loads its history in rounds of 1,000 transactions, while its balance already covers all of it. When more remain, select **Load older transactions** at the end of the list.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The CSV export only holds the transactions loaded so far. Load every round before you export a complete file.
