Give Gerfaut the public side of your wallet: the descriptor, extended public key or address your signing device or wallet software exports. Gerfaut refuses anything that contains a private key or a seed phrase.

Add the wallet

1

Open the add dialog

Select Add a wallet at the bottom of the home screen.
2

Paste, import or scan the wallet

Paste it in Descriptor, extended public key, or address, then select Continue. Two other ways in:
  • Import a file: A .txt, .json, .desc or .bsms file, such as the export of another wallet.
  • Scan a QR code: Plain text, UR or BBQr, animated or not. Keep the camera on an animated code until the counter reaches its total. On Android the button reads Scan.
A refused input says why, under the field.
3

Check the first address

The card reads Recognized as with the kind of input, then First address, the first address Gerfaut derives.
Compare First address with the first address your signing device or wallet software shows. A different address means Gerfaut watches another wallet.
For an extended public key, check the script type too: see Wallet types. When a QR code names no receive or change path, Gerfaut shows This QR code carries no receive or change path, so Gerfaut assumes the usual 0/* and 1/*. Compare the first address with your signer. If First address differs, select Back. Then paste or import the descriptor your signing device or wallet software exports, which names its paths.
The Add a wallet screen on Android after pasting a descriptor: the Recognized as card with the first address, the Name field, the network buttons and the Add wallet button.

Gerfaut recognizes the pasted descriptor and shows the first address before anything is stored.

4

Name the wallet and select Add wallet

Enter a name in Name. When the input fits several networks, pick one in Network and check First address again. Gerfaut opens the wallet and runs its first sync.

Gerfaut names the format and the first address before it stores anything, then opens the new wallet synced.

For an extended public key used outside the usual derivation branches, open Advanced on the confirmation step. Enter the Receive path, the Change path and the Key origin, then select Apply. Check the new first address again.

Manage your wallets

Open Settings > Wallets. Each wallet has its own row:
  • Rename: Select Rename, enter the new name and select Save name. Selecting the wallet name at the top of its page on Android, or of its Overview on desktop, does the same.
  • Icon: Select Icon, then one of seven icons, such as Key, Snowflake or Pin.
  • Rescan: Read the wallet again from its first address, change included, up to the Gap limit at the top of the section. Raise that limit first for coins further out. Gerfaut then shows the result, such as Rescanned · 2 new transactions.
  • Remove: Stop watching the wallet once you confirm with Remove wallet. Nothing moves on-chain.
  • Reorder: Drag a wallet by its handle, or hold a wallet card on the Android home screen and drag it.
  • Advanced: Select Advanced under the list to pick the wallets Live follows first when it cannot follow every address.
The Wallets screen on Android: the gap limit field and two wallet rows, each with Rename, Icon, Rescan and Remove actions and a drag handle, then Advanced.

Wallets are managed in one list: rescan, rename, reorder or remove, with the gap limit above.
